"MIDNIGHT SUN ORCHESTRA"

Midnight Sun Orchestra

The Midnight Sun Orchestra has held this gig at Havana in New Hope for, what, 17 years? Heavy hittin', great players, these cats blow! This is not Lawrence Welk (no disrespect intended), this is Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Woody Herman, Nelson Riddle. Dancing Dancing Dancing on Havana's big dance floor! Or listening from the tables and sofas on the perimeter. I'm very happy to be filling in again!

"SING ALONG WITH SCULPTURE, Season 6"

Adam Weitz, Seward Johnson

with Adam Weitz & Seward Johnson

For the past five years people from all over the world have stopped into the pavilion at Rat's after a tour of the 42-acre Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton to put their heads together and their hearts into singing beloved Broadway favorites and popular songs — sometimes it's an opera chorus, sometimes it's a circus, but it's always special! Now starting Season 6 with artist/GFS founder, Seward Johnson, and emcee Adam Weitz, you can enjoy the picturesque beauty of the park in the company of new and old friends over drinks and small plate specials.

Free, with songbooks provided.

October 5, 8:00-10:00 PM
"SUSTAINABLE JAZZ QUARTET"

Adam Weitz, Seward Johnson

STEVE HILTNER, Lars Wendt, Phil Orr, Jason Harris

Reedman and composer Steve Hiltner leads the group through two sets of swing, latin & funk originals, partly composed around the themes of his personal and professional interests, climate change and environmental (and therefore human) sustainability. It's pretty clever— there are no harangues, just suggestive titles ("Greening the Blues," "Funky River") with maybe a modern 'beat' poem to groove and move you. "Original jazz composed using only local, organic ingredients, natural chord progressions, and solar-powered imaginations. No virgin timbres are harvested for these performances."
